Today, we will continue our topic on unusual modern table design. Different from yesterday’s high-tech and fashionable table design, tables present in this post are either multifunctional like Min Hoo Park’s Integrated Table or extremely foldable such as Origami Side Table. Funny looking, interesting function and easily assembling/foldable table design, all in this post.

1. Cohda’s clamp-on table legs [link]

This is not a talbe. I put it in this post becaue it’s really amazing. These table legs are capable of transforming any flat surface into a usable table.

2. Min Hoo Park’s Integrated Table [link]

London-based designer Min Hoo Park has been showing his Integrated Table concept at the fairs for a few months now, but to truly grasp its awesomeness, you need to see the thing in action.

Here, Min walks us through the various flips, plug-ins, and modulations that make this such a seductive piece of furniture/art: the dishes, cup, vase and candelabra plug neatly into dedicated sockets, and the tray and tabletop remove for greater flexibility. Wait for the end, when he unveils its tall, elegant cousin with integrated champagne bucket and tapas table.

3. FLOTspotting : Umbrella Table by Caspar Schmitz [link]

Caspar Schmitz in collaboration with Ralph Ludwig created this highly functional table inspired by the umbrella. This unique table mixes form with function and makes one hell of an impressive garden table. The table is folded up like an umbrella in the beginning and for use, must be opened out like a flower.

4. Origami Side Table, zero tools & hardware required [link]

Philadelphia designers Jaime Salm and Young Jin Chung have developed the Origami Side Table.

Composed of two laser-cut and slotted sheets of steel, Origami ships flat and requires no tools or hardware to assemble. One sheet is the negative of the other, eliminating waste during production and giving the table its dynamic form. Once bent, the tables folds lock the parts into place. The tables petal-like surfaces are sturdy and spacious making it a practical and sculptural side table, night stand or plant stand.

5. Clever rolling table-chair combo design [link]

When the chairs are slid underneath the table with the front legs placed on the crossbar, they lock into position and handily provide wheels for the table. Space-saving and functional, this seems like it’d be a good fit for a space-tight room.

7. The Little Star Table [link]

Here’s introducing one of the most contemporary Industrial Designers from the UK: Ben Huggins. His Little Star table project is a simple mathematical endeavor. Craft a line here, stack an angle there and you’ve constructed a very chic table! Three tables can be cut from one 1200mm x 2400mm sheet of 15mm ply by CNC router and Ben’s been hand-crafting them all. No screws or ?xings, it comes in this neat pizza-style box.

8. Ellipse Table [link]

The elliptical kitchen table expands up to 3.7m long dining size. The insertable leaves are the off-cuts generated from cutting the ellipse. Additional leaves can be added depending on the size of table needed and are left in a pile in the corner of the room when not in use.

By using the waste material created while cutting the elliptical table top, the shape is literally turned inside out and order turns to chaos. Etymologically ‘Ellipsis’ means to ‘leave out’ or ‘fall short’.

1. TMRnyc’s wired table [link]

The Side Wired Desk concept came out of a desire to organize all the visual madness of cords, wall warts, and power bricks sprouting out of my laptop, monitors, hard drives and speakers, spilling on to the floor into an ugly tangle of a powerstrip, cat hair and cables.

The design challenge was to make a great looking desk, incorporate a hidden cable management system and power source as well as making it fast/easy to get at the cable ends to rearrange things when as the situation arises. One of the solutions was to make the wire grommets a part of the design. The other solution was to make a hinged tray to manage the cables that can also hold hard drives and any other corded object that clutters the desktop.

2. Schlicht table [link]

In this era of chipping and fixing in designing, we don’t see a product bent with a single piece too often. However, Sydney-based designer Nathan Mills, breaking away from current inclinations, has come up with an innovative furniture unit design.

3. Twine Table [link]

Twine Table is a series of tables inspired by one of mankind’s most simple inventions: the button. The table top is an over-size button, whilst the metal wire pierces and twists around the surface to create an elegant base. A playful and nostalgic addition to any interior.

4. Mushroom Forest Coffee Table [link]

The Mushroom Forest Table Series is a new table design concept from Bay Area Designer Thomas Wold. These collectible designs are available in two sizes: a three-top single-color side table/nightstand and a seven-top, multicolor coffee table. The mushroom caps function as flat table tops, each with different height and cap circumference. The “burl” base provides an extremely stable platform for the “growing” stems and caps. The Mushroom Forest Series of tables provide a dramatic setting for objects such as glasses, books, vases, or alarm clocks or simply serves as a reminder to be happy.

The Tre Table Multi Function Table is Multifunctional design, can be used as a coffee table, end table, computer desk, or a dinner tray / laptop stand. Available in natural walnut veneer, black or white. when it used as a mini desk for the laptop, I think it’s too small to place my mouse, but still cool.

7. Green Table [link]

Look at this lovely table you see here, then let me introduce you to the plants it’s got growing on it. Tillandsias, also known as Air Plants grow without soil, feeding instead on the moisture it finds in the air (dust, decaying leaves and insect matter). These plants rely on a host structure for support, but don’t worry, the table wasn’t alive to begin with.

But then again, the table wouldn’t be killed by this whole ordeal, as the Tillandsias that grow on top of it use a host structure simply for structural support. Seems like a fair deal to me.

These tables are made for the freshening of a home, as the Tillandsias absorb CO2 from the air and produce oxygen in the night.

8. Caesar Stone Table [link]

Made of standard Caesar materials, the multifunctional furniture features a free flowing form with a nifty storage area underneath the surface of the table. While the special board, developed in glass with embedded side lightning, of the table not just make the unit durable and lightweight, for a safe as well as easy transportation, but at the same time trendy to be placed in contemporary apartments.

When is a paperclip not a paperclip? When it’s a LED lamp by Teague, of course. As the ubiquitous paperclip lends itself to being picked up and bent, the designers of this lamp, Ben Collette and David Wykes, applied the same tactile approach to the structure of the lamp. 6. Lull Flower Lamp Concept [link]

Lull is a lamp that opens and closes like a flower. As a bud during sunrise it stretches its petals to bloom. It opens carefully and dims up to give a powerful morning light. In the evening LULL acts the opposite. When it’s time to go to bed, the flower slowly closes while the light is dimming down and it turns into a bud again.

7. Steampunk Lamp by Michael Pusateri [link]

Made of an old wooden cigar box, two 60 watt bulbs, a handful of copper wire…From author: “I used an old wooden cigar box, a few ceramic bulb mounts, a rheostat and few other odds and ends. I did get a little fancy and paint the ceramic mounts with textured copper paint. The wiring was trivial, but I got a chance to use an Underwriter’s Knot. There’s a lot more steampunk I could have thrown at it, but I like the simplicity of this. I used two 60 watt bulbs, so it can get quite bright. It’s much more pleasant at a lower light level.”

8. KOZO Lamps by Design2009 [link]

The KOZO series lighting made of galvanized iron parts, Cool Tap light switch(developed by Design2009), and house a light bulb or a halogen light bulb! The materials are left raw and alive, with little authentic rust at the joints and the marks from hand tools that were used in the assembly process. KOZO is handmade and assembled at the studio.”

9. Gecko Wall Lamp [link]

If you like a gecko climb your wall? The Gecko Wall Lamp is a piece of modern funky lighting. It features the frame is constructed from wrought iron and with the main gecko body wrapped in abaca twine. The lampshades are created from fossilized dyed cocoa leaves. Available in green, multi, natural, purple, red lamp shades colors. A standard 25-40 watt candelabra bulb is recommended.

10. Lamponi Lamps [link]

Designed Italian designer Maurizio Lamponi Leopardi. These lamps can decorate and light the table at the same time – you just need to pick the lamp you want, you can get one with a plane or with a house hold object like an iron or a kettle.

11. Peel Off Lamp [link]

Grid mosaic lamps are nothing new but custom ones unique to each person are. The Peel Off Light by Sehwan Oh enables each person to take home a mass produced lamp that can be customized by peeling off the pre-scored tiles. Your mosaic can reflect your design aesthetic and/or how much illumination you want. Will we see more of these customizable mass produced products? They seem to make a comeback every year before disappearing to the dead trends wastebasket.

12. IVY, The Organic Lamp Shade [link]

“IVY is a home source of light made from LED’s. The Lamp consists of modules. Connecting them we decide the form and size of the lamp. The base of the lamp is a flowerpot, in which we are planting plants like ivy. The light is penetrating through the leaves of the plant, creating interesting lighting effects and the unique mood in the interior. the design is our attempt to combine nature with technology, two seemingly unfamiliar worlds.”

13. Twist Together Lamp Is Hackerish [link]

The Twist Together Lamp encourages you to design your own lamp. Individual blocks connect together and illuminate with a simple twist. Many creations are possible from a single set of 4 blocks, but you can also connect multiple sets together (up to 6 on a single power supply) expanding your options indefinitely.

Aside from the interactivity, the lamp(s) has an enticing glow adding a warm, modern ambience to any room. It’s energy efficient too – LEDs provide a safe, low-voltage and long lasting light source while consuming less power than a standard night light.

14. Architectural Mood Lighting [link]

The Penta lamp is probably one of the more striking designs I’ve seen. In a time when most modern lamps follow the molded poly road, this one uses structure to dynamically change its shape and ambient lighting. Its shape suggest rotary motion but the seemingly complex design is actually quite simple. Flat packed and made of recycled components, the Penta was designed by Luca Casarotto.
